Meet Our Doctors

Kenneth S. Carlough, DMD

Dr. Carlough After receiving his BA degree from Miami University in Oxford, OH, Dr. Carlough was awarded his DMD and MSD degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. He completed an internship at Western Pennsylvania Cleft Palate Center and studied at The Center for Head, Face and Neck Pain with Dr. Travell and Dr. Funt. His Masters' Thesis was on Computerized Soft Tissue Analysis of the Class II Individual. Dr. Carlough was awarded Instructor of the Year for Orthodontic Teaching by the University of Pittsburgh in 1979, and was recently voted Best Orthodontist in New Haven County. For the past several years he has been voted one of the Top Orthodontists in the state by his peers according to Connecticut Magazine. He is a member of Omicron Dental Kappa National Leadership Society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society and Delta Sigma Delta Professional Dental Fraternity.

Dr. Carlough is a member of many dental and orthodontic associations, which include The Seattle Study Club, Founder/Advisor of the River Valley Study Club, The American Association of Orthodontists and The Connecticut State Orthodontic Society. He is currently the President of Connecticut State Society of Orthodontics and a delegate to the Northeastern Society of Orthodontics. He has served as President of the Shoreline Dental Society and is presently serving as delegate to The Connecticut State Dental Society.

Raising three sons, Jason, Garrett and Chadwick, Dr. C has lived and been practicing on the Shoreline since 1979. He enjoys golf, snow skiing, scuba diving, boating and model ship building. He has spent many years in youth sports coaching Little League Baseball, Basketball and Soccer. He has served on the Board of Directors for The Connecticut Junior/Senior Golf Society, and is a Member of the Connecticut Golf Association and a Committee Member of The First Tee (making golf available to underprivileged children) as well as a current member of The Lions Club (past President) the Elks Club and the Chamber of Commerce.

Dr. Carlough's practice philosophy is to provide excellent personalized orthodontic treatment to children and adults in a comfortable, affordable and timely manner. He enjoys watching smiles, faces and personalities change throughout treatment. He's very proud that it is said “you can recognize a Dr. C smile anywhere". He's very thankful for the lasting friendships that have been established with our patients and their families.

Jeffrey E. Burzin, DDS

Dr. Burzin 
Dr. Burzin has lived in Ivoryton since 1995 with his wife and three daughters. He enjoys spending time with his family and playing sports such as golf, basketball, and tennis. Dr. Burzin is involved with various civic and community organizations. He has served on the Essex Board of Education and has been an active member of the Essex Lions Club for over ten years.

Dr. Burzin was born in New York City. He attended The City University of New York at Brooklyn College. After receiving his Bachelor of Science, Summa-Cum-Laude with Honors in biology in 1985, Dr. Burzin attended Stony Brook's School of Dental Medicine in Long Island New York. He received his dental degree, with honors, in 1989. Dr. Burzin was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon's Honorary Dental Society in 1989.

Dr. Burzin received his orthodontic training at The University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine in Farmington, CT (1989-1991). In conjunction with his orthodontic training at the University of Connecticut, Dr. Burzin studied at the University of Aarhus Royal Dental College in Denmark in 1990. Dr. Burzin received a research grant from the Northeast Society of Orthodontists in 1990 to study orthodontic stability. He later authored a chapter in an orthodontic textbook based on his research.

Dr. Burzin began his practice of orthodontics in Stamford Connecticut in 1991. He joined Child and Adult Orthodontics on the Shoreline in 1993. Dr. Burzin is a past president of the Shoreline Dental Society. He continues to have close ties to, and supports the orthodontic department at the University of Connecticut. He is actively involved in the River Valley Study Club and the Shoreline Dental Society. His peers have voted him one of the Top Orthodontists in the state according to Connecticut Magazine.

Dr. Burzin enjoys working with children and adults of all ages. Dr. B's goal is to help patients obtain a beautiful and healthy smile they can enjoy for a lifetime.

Laura Gagnon, DMD

Dr. Gagnon Dr. Gagnon completed her BA degree at Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA and her DMD degree at the University of Connecticut. She received a certificate in Orthodontics at the University of California in San Francisco where she practiced prior to moving to Connecticut.

She is currently a member of the Shoreline Dental Society and has served on the Executive Board from 1992-1996. She is also a member of the American Association of Orthodontics, The Connecticut State Orthodontic Society and The Connecticut State Dental Society.

A native of Pittsfield, MA, Dr. Gagnon has lived in Westbrook since 1990. She is a wife and mother of three. She is past President of Daisy Ingraham PTO, a St. Marks CCD teacher and can often be found addressing the area pre-schools on dental health and hygiene. She is also a school volunteer. She enjoys Skiing, Tennis, Reading and Boating, and serves as "Chief Cook and Bottle Washer" for the Woodford family.

Dr. Gagnon enjoys shaping children's smiles at a very impressionable age and helping adults realize an often long awaited dream of a more beautiful, functional smile. She has been practicing on the Shoreline since 1990.
